Rumor has it...you rock!

Kudos Claudia Michaels! She goes above and beyond with her responsibilities and I don't know what they would do without being able to have her to count on day in and day out. She deals with very difficult customers because the easy low maintenance customers do not come in to the office or call the office. The workload in that office is such that there is really zero downtime and it is difficult to even have a meeting without interruptions. During our last staff meeting Claudia had to answer the phone and help customers the entire time. (Lisa R, coworker)

The Library is awesome. I feel lucky to be able to come here. Thank you for keeping it in pristine condition and being so amazing. I appreciate you -- Sarah M, resident.

Officers Heather Rumbaugh and Ben Filice - Thank you for visiting Learning Links. We loved seeing the police car, motorcycle, and hearing the sirens. We were so excited to sit in the car! Thank you for providing this experience, stay safe, and we appreciate all you do to keep us safe (Arctic Class)

Officer Mark Lancaster - Just wanted to let you what a great job I thought you did on this case. Particularly the fact that you were out diligently patrolling up on Skyline Blvd at 3am. Again, great work and a great example for the new officers (Chief Matteucci)

Ive been coming to this library since the 60's and it is the best Library in the Bay Area -- Mike S. Library Volunteer

Police staff - Ryan Aguas, Daniel Thompson, Gina Pozzi, Anthony Thickstun, Paul Webb - I wanted to circle back to thank you for the support of the Burlingame Police Department with our march this past Saturday. The officers who worked at our event were so supportive, communicative, and friendly. We deeply appreciated having them there, and they truly helped make our event a success. (Kathering G, organizer of the June 11th protest march)

A big thank you for the technical support (Lower Level Library staff) you have down at the computers. A small problem can seem so big without someone knowledgeable to assist. I love our Library!! -- Anonymous Resident

I want to thank Library and Facilities Staff for making our Library the best it can be so that the public continues to notice (Brad McCulley, City Librarian)

Thank you ACE Employee Engagement Committee! - A big THANK YOU to the ACE Committee for all their hard work and great achievements over the last 3 years. The City is a better place to work because of you. (Sonya HR Director)

Kudos Parks team! - They went above and beyond figuratively and literally, in the retrieval of my sons most prized possession RC airplane. My son, Gavin and I would like to thank Bob and everyone who helped facilitate the rescue of the plane and appreciate their efforts in doing so. Gavin is so thankful and was a happy to get it back. (Misti, resident) - see August newsletter for the full story and pic

Tree crew - I would like to say thank you to you and your tree trimming crew. The crew were trimming a tree, when they noticed that the trunk on my car had sprung open. A crew member knocked on my front door and advised me of the situation. They did not have to do that, but they did, and we really appreciate it. The staff really reinforces why Burlingame is great place to live! I really appreciate their kindness and consideration.

Great job Margaret Glomstad (and her team) - Fabulous job at the ribbon cutting! The successful completion of State of the Art Community Center building, it's design with all the great amenities speak volumes of your leadership, dedication and hard work in getting this job done, and done so well! Congratulations to you and everyone in the team! (from the DH Team)

Kudos Catherine Keylon - A few of us were texting during your presentation, "wow, Catherine is incredible!" And "yeah, she's a rockstar." We really mean it. It's been great working with you. I know you've been crazy busy, but your persistence on following through on so many details and your thoroughness and easy demeanor on such a complex project has been such a pleasure. Thanks again for your help making last night, and the last year leading up to it, go so smoothly! (Greg business partner)

Corp yard - Thank you to the Corp Yard staff who stepped up to help find a replacement to help in HR over the summer – I got emails and resumes from friends and family members of Corp Yard staff, all willing to help out, and even one of our own asked about a work out of class. It really was super helpful the way you all reached out to ensure HR ran smoothly. A special thank you to Kris Sojda for volunteering for a work out of class in HR over the summer! I hope this gives you an opportunity to learn something new and have a little fun too Kris! (Sonya HR Director)

Parks staff - Kudos to James Delaney and Jesus Barajas – James and Jesus went above and beyond for a request to have some foliage and branches cleared from our telemetry antennae, located at a sewer lift station. James's attention to detail compelled their crew to perform weed abatement and additional foliage removal. Great Work!! (Rick H.)

Kudos Corrie - I wanted to reach out and let you know that I am a kindergarten teacher at a private learning center. I'm earning early childhood certifications while working full time. Thank you for all your guidance and support during my summers as an LIT. I learned so much from you and the other teachers and I will never forget it. I love teaching and I have a wonderful class of kiddos. I hope your 2022 is going well! Please tell the other teachers at Village Park that I say hello :)

Kudos emergency water main helpers - There was a big emergency last night involving a major water main break. The Water Division crew along with members of the Sewer Division did a great job in responding to water main break and restoring the service to over 200 properties in an expedient manner. (Syed Murtuza, PW Director)

Our attentive have Parks Division Safety Committee deserve accolades for their attention to detail! Monthly, they perform inspections of parks and playground equipment looking for issues that could potentially present a safety hazard. On multiple occasions they have found obscure bolts loose, broken branches in trees and shifted surfacing that could be a trip hazard. The Committee consists of Chairperson Jesus Barajas, Greg Shimizu, Antonio Marquez and Jorge Rodriguez. Kudos to you all for helping to prevent potential injuries and making the areas safe for all!

Kudos PW - Every other week it seems I have a loose personhole cover on my street which rattles a lot. When I call PWY I get a friendly voice and the cover is tightened usually within 30 minutes of my call. Love the super fast response from our Public Works team! (Greg resident)

James Delaney has served as an amazing creative force in the Parks Division. Recently, James repurposed a stump and trunk in the back of Washington Park into a beautifully carved and painted wishing well. James included some of his peers for the final touches and the result is an eye-catching artistic installation for park patrons of all ages to enjoy. Daily, we receive compliments for this additional feature in the Park. Bravo James for another fantastic creation that exceeds our expectations! (From your friends in Parks and Recreation)

Kudos Fred Ghilain - I would like to have Fred Ghilain recognized for his leadership and hard work in getting the HVAC system fixed on a fastrack schedule despite the system being old and parts not available in the State, and he had make them work with our old unit. (Syed Murtuza)

Kudos Alyssa Diaz! You have hit the ground running and are such a great addition to the City Manager's office! Welcome and great job! (Sonya Morrison, HR Director)

I am about to close a transaction that required a prior sewer lateral inspection, something in which David Cardona participates. There were challenges and delays (not caused by the City) and David truly cared and stepped in to provide service rarely seen in private or public entities. He went so out of his way to make what we needed happen and was more responsive than most people around. I know he must be that way with everything he does and everyone with whom he interacts. (Resident)

I'd like to acknowledge Mr Voong for his work in the Easton in improving the sidewalks, to make it more pleasant and safe to walk on. He was also the project manager for the pedestrian light project on Broadway. He has been diligent and responsive in the process. He was willing to meet with a constituent out in the field, and with merchants as well, to answer questions. He is a BurlinGEM (Goes the Extra Mile) (Resident)

Kudos HR Team - I wanted to send you a little note before I go to say how thankful I am for all of you. I was around when the HR Department didn't have near the level of organization and follow-through that it does now. You all have really turned it around, and it shows. I know you have put up with a lot this last year, and I want you to know, in case you don't hear it enough: EVERY ONE OF YOU IS AWESOME!!! Thank you for all you do for us!

Kudos Jesus Barajas and Tony Urena - a crew of two men trimmed my Magnolia tree. They did an outstanding job of pruning my tree. They were very courteous and cleaned up nicely. I have been a garden volunteer at FILOLI for 15 years. I do have some knowledge of trees and plants. I wish I had been home when they finished. Please thank them for taking such good care of my Magnolia tree. (Judy D - citizen)

Well done street sweeper! - The Street Sweeper on Carmelita is much appreciated. He does an outstanding job in her neighborhood especially during the storms. She is grateful for his smiling attitude and that he waves and honks when passing by. (Gayle E - citizen)

Kudos Kris Sojda! - Last month I spoke to an employee in the Public Works Corporate Yard Department because my tap water was brown. Kris took down my contact information and got back to me in 10 minutes with an explanation of why the water was discolored. City workers had cleaned out a main water pipe near my home. Kris told me to run the water in my tub and tap for a few minutes and the water should clear up. It worked!!!!! I'm grateful for his help and think he did a great job informing me right away. (Constance Q - resident)

Parks Employees rock! - I live close to Washington Park and frequently enjoy walking through the park. Your employees are always friendly and courteous, saying "good morning" when we meet, and they do a wonderful job maintaining the grounds, always taking care of litter, and making our parks a natural resource that refreshes the spirit. Thank you all for your hard work. (Jane D - resident)

Awesome work Kelly Grima! - Shout out to Kelly Grima, Children's Librarian. She is unflappable, patient and kind. She is wonderful with patrons, and as a colleague I value her professional experience. She is always willing to listen to ideas and make constructive suggestions on how to make them better, or just simply explain how to do a task that is new to me. I really appreciate her. (Jennifer Bousquet, Children's Librarian)

Officers Jeff Schoenstein and Rafael Noriega - We appreciate them taking time out of their busy schedules to join us (and in Jeff's case, his vacation!). As you may have heard, their simulations sparked lots of courageous conversations and they did a good job listening to the concerns of the class (Leadership Council Margi and Kaarin)

Officer Ruby Guzalowski - kudos from Lt Kiely "Nice work getting prints on this auto burglary on Mariposa. Keep up the great work." and Chief Matteucci "I agree 100%. It's rare to get a hit on a fingerprint from an auto burglary. I think I got one my entire career. Outstanding investigation, diligence, and conscientiousness. You're doing a great job out there. Did a very nice job. Thank you and thanks to them for always being so professional and helpful." (Councilmember Donna Colson)

Officer Hayden Goldstein - Great work over the weekend on the DUI arrests, especially the one which required the search warrant. Very thorough and diligent work to keep the streets safe for other motorists and pedestrians. We sincerely appreciate it. (Lt Jay Kiely)

Inspector Richard Scheno - I wanted to pass along some details regarding a call for service Scheno had on OT a few weeks back. Inspector Scheno was detailed to a call for service regarding an elderly female suffering from Alzheimer's who did not recognize her husband. The husband called and wanted to express his gratitude for Scheno's patience and professionalism during a difficult time for him. (Sgt Mike Bolanos)

Officers Hayden Goldstein and Kimberly Marin - Officers Goldstein and Marin were highly professional patient listeners. They understood all aspects of the situation and encouraged additional contact if circumstances warranted it. I was especially thankful for their thoughts and counsel. I left both visits with more peace of mind and confidence that I had made the right decisions coming in. (Tom K, resident)

National Transportation Safety Board members were complimentary and appreciative (Carlos Bolanos, Sheriff)

Officers rafael Noriega, Kimberly Marin, Amber Gibson - You obviously made an impression as he took the time to send a handwritten thank you card. Great job handling the call and (as he put it) being so level-headed, calm, cool and collected. And thank you for portraying the police department in such a positive light (Ian C resident)

Officer Rumbaugh did an excellent job communicating with the juvenile, school administrator, and parent during an incident of a lost juvenile. (Sgt Bolanos), and Chief Matteucci' "Sgt. Bolanos told me you did an excellent job using your school contacts to resolve this case and that it would have been a lot more difficult had you not been there. Nice work. "

This is to inform the Public Works Dept of the fine job Joe Meisenheimer did on my property on Friday,January 20. This was an emergency repair on the water valve which was gushing on my front yard.
